Surf Striper Fishing: Ray Serrano’s Guide to Sasuke 130 Goriki / Jetty 135S – Part 2

In Part 2 of our three-part series, West Coast striper hunter and ima Pro Staffer Ray Serrano shares how he uses two of his go-to minnow-style lures for targeting striped bass in the surf: the Sasuke 130 Goriki and Jetty 135S.

From fast retrieves to jerk-and-pause presentations, Ray explains how he works these lures and how tide and baitfish conditions influence his approach.

Sasuke 130 Goriki

The Sasuke 130 is a floating minnow bait with a wobbling action, it runs about 1′. It’s got a built in lip, that creates the action. The body turns left and right kinda like a crankbait. I’ll work it either with a straight wind or I’ll jerk it.

My first cast is always cast and reel as fast as I can and I’ll do it a couple of times. If I don’t get anything then I’ll do a jerk. Jerk, jerk, pause. Reel fast pause, reel fast pause. It all depends on the tide too, whether it’s incoming or outgoing.

Jetty 135S

The Jetty 135S is a sinking minnow bait that runs a little bit deeper and it is more of a traditional jerkbait. I’ll work it like I do the Sasuke If there is a lot of bait around, I’m gonna throw the Sasuke 130 and the Jetty 135S because they imitate schools of bait.

North American Saltwater Colors

We (ima USA Saltwater Pro Staff) recently collaborated with ima Japan to develop colors that were specific to North American Fisheries and all these colors work. (Bone, Scaled Smelt, Tomcod, Black Back Chovy, Sardine, Pink Glow, Glow Sardine, and Red Gold Fire). Before we had these colors I would stick to natural colors such as Mullet, Chrome Sardine, Chartback Pearl, or Cotton Candy.
